Weather Advisory

It's September and that means we're still in hurricane season . Please review these safety messages for ways you can stay safe in severe weather.

http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/hurricane
http://www.cdc.gov/features/hurricanepreparedness/

We've also included some simple things you can do right now to be prepared in the event bad weather hits our area.
  • Build Your Emergency Kit
    • This kit should include flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, a battery-powered radio, and at least three days-worth of water and non-perishable food items.  Also consider buying a wireless charger for your cell phone.
  • There's an App for That
    • The American Red Cross has a free app for both iPhone and Android users and is loaded with useful information (like how to turn your smartphone into a hurricane toolkit!) while providing you with access to local and real-time weather.
    • FEMA also has an app with information on local shelters, weather updates from the National Weather Service, and more.
    • Find out if your phone receives WEAs (Wireless Emergency Alerts is a nationwide text emergency alert system). WEA-capable phones in the vicinity of dangerous weather will receive alerts in the event of impending bad weather.

Internet Tech Support Line

We are pleased to announce that the support line is now open for our newly installed WiFi system! You no longer have to email management or call the office and wait for assistance. We have a dedicated 24/7 toll-free switchboard with experts ready to assist you. Just call Hotel Internet Services (877-254-4571) and let the operator know you are a Summerfield Square resident.

ACOM Housing Financial Aid Q&A

We know you have a long to-do list as you prepare to embark on your first year of medical school so we want to make the ACOM housing process is as simple and straightforward as possible.

Q: How can I pay for on campus housing when financial aid isn’t distributed until September?
A:  Come live at ACOM’s on-campus community, Summerfield Square, where we work with students and ACOM officials to make sure every student gets the most out of their medical school career.

Q: Does Summerfield Square require proof of income?
A: No, we will accept your financial aid as income. No other Dothan, AL apartment community will do this and will require you to have a cosigner (in other words, your parents need to sign your lease with you).

Q: What if my financial aid has not come in yet?
A: We will allow you to defer your housing fees, with no penalty or late fee, for as many as two months per semester or until your financial aid arrives.

Q: So nothing is due upfront?
A: No, not entirely. You will be required to pay your pro-rated housing fee for the month of July (typically two weeks’ housing fee) in order to receive your keys but will not be required to pay anything else out of pocket until you receive your financial aid.

Q: How do I sign up for this free service?
A: On move in day you will receive a packet and deferral information is included there. You must sign the appropriate paperwork by July 31st in order to be eligible.

If you have any other questions about how the deferral process works, would like more information on the ACOM housing community or have a general inquiry, please contact us by any of the following means:

Severe Weather Announcement

Our region is at the start of tornado season and, with our residents' safety in mind, we wanted to share some reminders with all of you.

We strongly urge each of our residents to install a weather alert app on their phone in order to keep an up to date watch on the weather. There are a number of apps that will update you when necessary, including local news affiliate WTVY's.

Should the weather become severe please seek shelter in an interior room or closet on the first floor. If this is not an option, head to the Summerfield Square clubhouse which will remain open as a safe shelter in the event of an emergency. Additionally, some of our first floor residents have graciously volunteered to open their apartments up to their fellow neighbors as a safe space. Don’t hesitate to go to these apartments should the need arise: Apt. 1031, Apt. 1042, and Apt. 1043.

The number one priority during this season is safety and if you have any other questions on what to do in an emergency weather situation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly.
